Chelsea Contracting Ltd is a multi-disciplinary construction and remediation company. We offer a full range of construction, remediation, and maintenance and upgrade services including: Project management, Commercial, Civil, Industrial, Infrastructure refurbishment and maintenance, as well as Residential New Build. We are Auckland Transport panel members and was awarded Best multi-disciplinary construction and remediation company in New Zealand in the year 2019 & 2020 Construction and Engineering awards by Branz Build Magazine.
Chelsea Contracting Ltd established a dedicated concrete repair division due to the growing need for our specialist service. The company is well known of high quality workmanship, well focused on the professional delivery of application and solutions for concrete remediation & Protective coatings, structural repairs, seismic upgrades, Carbon fibre strengthening systems, structural steel installation, crack injection, non-disruptive wall ties, seismic joints and safety barrier installation. Chelsea Contracting can also provide waterproofing services such as car park deck system, warm roof system, panel joint sealing, roofing, decking and tanking membranes.
Our team of qualified specialist are Approved Applicators for specialist products and systems from international companies including Sika, Mapei, Watson Bowman & Acme, Ardex, Viking Roofspec, Jaydex, Equus, Nuralite, Waterproofing Systems, Bostik, Emseal, BAS construction joints and currently seeking status with a few other suppliers.
We hold ACC WSMP tertiary level, Site Wise Green certificate, PREQUAL approved contractor and member of IsNet.
Dominic Sutherland – Director
Dominic is a New Zealand qualified licensed Building Practitioner. He completed a 4-year apprenticeship in Carpentry Joiner and earned Trade Certificate in 1988.
He spent some time in New Zealand before heading to England for 13 years to further learn his trade. During his time in England, Dominic worked in several capacities in the building trade for large construction companies before starting his own company. Some of his most memorable jobs while in England included: Working at No 10 Downing Street, Total refurbishment inside and out of a historic grade 1 listed Manor House for a Russian Tycoon. He is especially proud of setting a European Canary wharf London Docklands. Some of his works are on flyers.

On his return to New Zealand in 2001 he worked as an independent developer and built several high specification homes and restored several older properties which were highly sought after once on the market.
He restored the Auckland Laundry Building in Grey Lynn. This required a complete refurbishment of electrical, plumbing, lift, and roof, external and internal structure. A fire and seismic upgrade were also completed. During this time, he was based in the building and in addition to the works he managed and leased the building for the owner. He also completed fit outs of the leased space for tenants.
The standard of the concrete restoration works at the Auckland Laundry Building meant that Dominic was asked on an ever-growing basis to do more concrete repairs by the Main Chemical companies. Dominic felt there was a need in the industry for a specialised concrete repairs company. His experience and knowledge gained in the UK working on the older English style construction means he can complete these works to a high standard and with a greater understanding than most.
Dominic has worked in many sectors of the industry from High rise concrete construction, Bank, Bar, Restaurant, Nightclub office and shop Fast Track fit out’s, historic restoration on Grade 1 and 2 listed buildings and high end home restoration, Shop fit-outs, and refurbishment of luxury homes, offices and shops in many challenging environments.
Since diversifying into the concrete repair industries in 2007 to broaden his Industry knowledge, Dominic has expanded into further facets of this industry to include concrete repair, wet and dry crack injection, waterproofing, tanking, flooring, Bridge Joints, grouting, Carbon Fibre seismic strengthening to name a few. Chelsea Contracting has worked on various projects. Projects such as SH20 repairs and installation during construction, Victoria Park Tunnel project, Dominion Road Ramp C Surface Waterproofing and several Bridge, tunnel, Water Care and NZ Rail projects.
Dominic has shown he is able to adapt to any challenge given to him in the broad spectrum of the building industries in some of the most difficult of environments he has worked in. Through leadership and a specialised team of experienced contractors he has been able to deliver a first-class product in budget and on time often finishing before.
Nathaniel Abustan – General Manager
Nathaniel (Nate) is an Architect from the Philippines and has over 25 years combined experience in Quality Assurance Management, Project/Construction Management and Estimating. This includes managing several product portfolios and carrying out project management – from delivering quotes, through to installation, quality assurance and full completion of the project.

Nate migrated to New Zealand in 2008 and has worked in several waterproofing companies as a Senior Estimator, Commercial Manager and Contract/Project Manager for over 12 years and as a Quality Assurance Manager and Site Manager for Summerset Management Group (2016) where he managed several large buildings and commercial projects.
Nate brings a wealth of knowledge and professionalism to Chelsea Contracting, and is a highly motivated and driven person with an eye for detail, result-oriented and a proven ability to meet deadlines.
Mark Lee – Project Manager
Mark has been with Chelsea Contracting since May 2014. Prior to joining us he spent time at General Engineering Ltd and completed a varied number of specialist projects, gaining knowledge in AutoCAD. He assisted in the design and installation of the Structural Steel Seismic upgrade to the Saatchi and Saatchi building, which included a complete skeleton frame inside the building, and from here his interest has grown in Seismic repairs.
Mark was born in England and immigrated as a young child to New Zealand. After completing school, he did a 4 year apprenticeship in Heavy Fabrication gaining Trade and Advanced Trade certificate in heavy fabrication.

This then led him to Auckland where he worked for several large companies including time at Service Engineers Ltd. Mark had a stint working back in England before returning with his wife to start their family in Auckland.
Mark has worked on many and varied projects of particular note: Starship Children’s Hospital and the Central Hotel. Some of the projects he worked since returning New Zealand include the Bungee Jump Pod and Pedestrian Walkway on the Auckland Harbour Bridge, fabrication and installation of the 11 Lighting bowls at the Britomart Train Station, The Warehouse and the Trusts Stadium in Henderson.

Rob Edmonds - Projects Manager / Site Manager
Rob is involved in a variety of administrative roles, including meeting clients, pricing work for tenders, and developing detailed work programmes. The role also includes providing on-site leadership to ensure projects run on-time and on-budget. Rob has over 20 years’ experience in the construction industry and project management.
Prior to joining Chelsea Contracting he ran his own Architectural Practice for 10 years, which involved working very closely with many local Councils to obtain a wide range of Resource and Building Consents. Producing the documentation required for these consents also required working closely with a wide range of building industry professionals such as structural engineers, surveyors, fire service engineers and so on.

In addition, Rob has many years’ experience as a carpenter on a wide range of residential, commercial, and industrial projects. In addition to a great deal of hands-on experience in the building process, Rob also has a great deal of experience with reading and interpreting plans/ diagrams and accurately measuring/ setting out projects.
Rob also has over 10 years of experience of on-site management running a variety of both residential and commercial projects. Key components of this including man management, ordering of materials and plant, and coordinating subcontractors. Also running site meetings and toolbox talks and ensuring all onsite documentation including incident reporting and QA is kept update to date.
Fozia Khan – Accounts and Office Manager
Fozia joined Chelsea Contracting in 2019. She is passionate and dedicated about her work and has over 12 years of experience in the Accounts, HR and Administration field. As a Accounts and Office Manager at Chelsea Contracting, Fozia is responsible for all the operational, financial and HR functions within the business. She enjoys working with the team in a collaborative environment with dedicated management.
Fozia brings considerable calm to what is often a humming environment.
Fozia has a Bachelor of Business Degree in HR and Management.
Naresh Dhanasekaran – Quantity Surveyor/Estimator
Naresh is a Civil Engineer from Chennai, India. He has been working for Chelsea Contracting since February 2019.
Naresh has a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and Masters with honours in Construction Management. Naresh has also completed his Diploma in AUTOCAD, he has good experience with PRIMAVERA, REVIT, STAAD PRO software. Naresh has hands-on experience in Ferro-cement, Geo Polymer Concrete, and Precast Structures.
Naresh has also published his research work on characteristic study on Epoxy with different fillers in an international journal.

Renee Operario – Quantity Surveyor
Renee is a Civil Engineer from Philippines and has over 8 years of combined Quantity Surveying experience from Indonesia, Vietnam and now in New Zealand. She is well versed in various building construction as well as works for commercial, industrial, and infrastructure projects.
She fulfilled a multifaceted role and executed in a variety of aspects of the quantity surveying profession including preparing high-level construction cost estimates to major projects, including million dollars luxury hotels, resorts, and railway projects.

Renee is a perceptive Quantity Surveyor and experienced in developing and managing project estimates from initiation until completion by coordinating with colleagues and clients. Successful in devising tender documents in line with client specifications and objectives through clear communication and attention to detail. Driven to minimize costs by continually comparing project costs to estimates and coordinating with leaders on cost-cutting methods.
Renee has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering and an Affiliated Member of NZ Institute of Quantity Surveyors and Engineering NZ.
