Dominic Sutherland

Dominic Sutherland

Dominic is a New Zealand qualified licensed Building Practitioner. He completed a 4 year apprenticeship in Carpentry Joiner and earned Trade Certificate in 1988.

He spent some time in New Zealand before heading to England for 13 years to further learn his trade. During his time in England Dominic worked in several capacities in the building trade for large construction companies before starting his own company. Some of his most memorable jobs while in England included: Working at No 10 Downing Street, refitting an Apartment for a Russian Tycoon and his Wife. He is especially proud of setting an European concrete pour record while working at the Docklands in London. Some of his works are on flyers below.

On his return to New Zealand in 2001 he worked as an independent developer and built several high specification homes and restored several older properties which were highly sought after once on the market.

He restored the Auckland Laundry Building in Grey Lynn. This required a complete refurbishement of electrical, plumbing, lift, roof, external and internal structure. An fire and seismic upgrade where also completed. During this time he was based in the building and in addition to the works he managed and leased the building for the owner. He also completed fit outs of the leased space for tenants.

The standard of the concrete restoration works at the Auckland Laundry Building meant that Dominic was asked on an ever growing basis to do more concrete repairs by the Main Chemical companies. Dominic felt there was a need in the industry for a specialised concrete repairs company. His experience and knowledge gained in the UK working on the older English style construction means he can complete these works to a high standard and with a greater understanding than most.

Dominic has worked in many sectors of the industry from Commercial high rise fit outs, Shop fit outs, and refurbishment of luxury homes, offices and shops in many challenging enviroments.
Since diversifying into the concrete repair industries in 2007 to broaden his Industry knowledge Dominic has expanded into further facets of this industry to include concrete repair, wet and dry crack injection, waterproofing, tanking, flooring, Bridge Joints, grouting, Carbon fibre seismic strengthening to name a few. Chelsea Contracting has worked on various projects. Projects such as SH20 repairs and installation during construction, Victoria Park Tunnel project, Dominion Road Ramp C surface Waterproofing and several Bridge, tunnel, Watercare and NZ Rail projects.

Dominic has shown he is able to adapt to any challenge given to him in the broad spectrum of the building industries in some of the most difficult of environments he has worked in. Through leadership and a specialised team of experienced contractors he has been able to deliver a first class product in budget and on time often finishing before.
